The art of comfortable fall camping

Domaine International de Rouville

Summer is over at Domaine International de Rouville and autumn has already arrived!

As consecutive beautiful days have been rather rare this summer and good weather seems to be showing up this fall, we would like to give you our best advice for going camping this fall. Contrary to what you might think, fall camping is much more accessible than you might think!

WHAT YOU SHOULD NOT FORGET

A “mummy” style sleeping bag

A good sleeping bag is essential for a pleasant and comfortable fall camping weekend. We are talking here about a bag that can be closed completely so that only the tip of the nose can be taken out. It will be particularly useful to you during cool nights and mornings. Pay attention to the moisture resistance and temperature rating of the bag, as this could make a big difference.

Note that it is also possible to purchase an additional liner that you can pair with your classic summer sleeping bag.

An insulating floor mattress

The floor mattress is just as important as the sleeping bag because it protects you from the cold created by contact with the ground. The insulation capacity and thermal resistance of mattresses are rated based on the R-value. For a fall mattress, look for a value between 2 and 4.

Warm clothes

It goes without saying that camping in the fall means dressing warmer. Away with shorts and camisoles: don't hesitate to bring fleece and a coat during your getaway. An easy trick: think of an onion and its peels. Indeed, an ideal technique is to layer several layers of clothing which can be added and removed throughout the weekend's activities.

The beanie will also be your best friend and don't hesitate to wear it to sleep: it's through your head (which is outside the sleeping bag) that you will lose a lot of heat. Some even go so far as to wear gloves or mittens, it’s up to you to decide according to your needs. In all cases, opt for materials that help insulate you from the cold and keep you dry.

Camping chairs

Summer and fall, they will be your companions for evenings around the fire. Camping chairs are particularly essential in autumn: sitting comfortably in them will be much better than sitting on damp and/or cold objects such as logs or rocks.

An extra lamp

Who says autumn means darkness much earlier: the lamps will therefore be very useful for you to carry out many of your activities at the end of the day. Whether it's an accent lamp with clip or a headlamp, remember that the sun will set early and that you will therefore need light to make dinner, among other things.

Bonuses!

Several small elements can make a big difference during your fall camping trip. Whether it's a tarpaulin to place under your tent, the interior candle lantern or the propane heater, don't hesitate to bring these items with you to maximize your comfort and also your pleasure! Basically, it's not that cold in autumn, especially if you're well equipped...
